An exceptional authentic great pipe from the Dr. William Melvin Walker estate collection. This piece measures 10-1/8″ x 2-7/8″ x 1-3/4″ and is made from a dark green steatite. Our research indicates that it is likely the longest ‘Turtle’ effigy great pipe in existance. Hart does not list one larger in his Prehistoric Pipe Rack series. Under the chin is noted 12 tallies, with an additional 4 on the side of the cheek. Reportedly found In Jefferson Co., Kentucky near the Falls of the Ohio. This piece does exhibit many plow strikes which did not break the piece, but did scar the surface. Dr. Walker, a Dentist by trade, partially restored some features of the head with black dental putty or wax which could be easily re-done by an expert restorer.
