13" Beaded Shoshone Doll - Ex Taft Museum
Excellent example made on or around the Wind River Reservation in Central Wyoming between 1925 and 1935. Acquired by the Taft Museum of Art in 2005 from the A. Lawrence collection who acquired it from an antique shop near Ft. Washakie, Wyoming. The doll is believed to have been made as a special gift to a child rather than something made for the tourist trade. Buckskin body filled with buffalo hair. Horsehair braids along with a parfleche knife sheath and painted fan. Trade beads, felt, and ribbons also used. A rare opportunity to acquire an extremely well cared for example. Includes Taft museum letter of provenance.
